It’s about that time of the year again! A period where we get to show our sincere appreciations. A time when we get to share a recap of all our activities and achievements again. And most importantly, a time when we get to meditate together on how to achieve greater things. We would like to use this medium to sincerely appreciate every single stakeholder that has helped us make impact this year. To our supporters, members, volunteers, teachers and students, we say a big thank you. “Excellence for all” may not have been possible without you.
Yes, the organization did clock a year this year. And with this, came so many other achievements. Ever since its inception and inauguration in 2018, the organization has not for once relented on its vision to increase access to basic quality education for indigent children through advocacy, mentorship and sponsorship. From eight foundational members to 42 members across seven departments, we are really proud to have gotten this far together.

Outreaches: the organization joined the world to celebrate the 1st United Nations International Day of Education which was on the 24th of January, 2019. Several members of the organization participated in the sensitization walk in the Taoheed Community, Basin, Kwara State. The walk proceeded to the community school where further awareness was made to the students and teachers on how necessary it is to understand the importance of education, a good education.

International Women’s Day: In accordance to the “Balance for better” theme, YSI was not left behind in this year’s International Women’s Day celebration. An all lady’s meet-up was organized and several discussions on how promoting girl child acknowledgment through the organization can be achieved.
Poetry contest: YSI celebrated the World Poetry Day by organizing a poetry contest among secondary school students. A poetry contest themed “Educate a child, refine the generation” was another wonderful move made by the organization towards accomplishing its mission. This time, schools all over Nigeria had the opportunity to participate. The winners were awarded cash prizes and books.
Kwara Teachers’ Conference: the maiden edition of KTC, an intervention program aimed at setting the pace for a structured teacher’s development training, networking and collaboration in Kwara state was held. The event clearly pointed out the absolute fact that if we want to have quality education for all truly, then the need to have standard and properly weaponized teachers cannot be overemphasized. Several teachers from various schools in Kwara State participated in the engaging and enlightening workshop.
AYIMUN grant: The Initiative’s proposal on Renovation of classrooms in Gaa Ayekale made it to the Top 9 Asia Youth International Model United Nations World CSR projects.
Scholarships: the number of beneficiaries increased to 45. Payment of WASSCE registration fees was also made for 11 students.
Annual General Meeting and Dinner: On a conclusive note, YSI had her Annual General Meeting and Dinner on the 15th of December, 2019. It was indeed a blissful event. Review of the achievements of the year were made and plans for the next year were intensely discussed.
The journey for impact has not ended. We really hope to give our very best in the new year and get further with making impacts. We thus, seek that your supports don’t end too. With over 40 students on scholarship with YSI, we absolutely look forward to enabling many other students. Your input and continuous supports will only make this more of a reality.
